Meet Our Herd

I really like horses, I think they are some of the most amazing animals in the world. I like the way they look at you. It’s like they are talking to you. I love putting my hand on the horses’s nose and feeling the warmth of the horse’s breath.” Maxx, Client

Our equine partners at Hold Your Horses are a special group of professionals! Each member of the herd is carefully selected and trained for their job of partnering with our staff and clinicians to provide therapy services. They amaze us every day with their wisdom and generous spirit.

Lily

Lily

Lily is a 12 hand Haflinger Fjord cross mare. She is the only mare (female) in our herd and knows that she is smart and beautiful. Lily has survived several episodes of laminitis (very sore feet) and is the toughest pony around. These days she is working less but always knows what is happening at the HYH farm yard! She welcomes affection and sugar free treats. Click the globe below to see her TV interview.

Ghost

Ghost

Ghost is a 15.2 hand Pinto gelding. He is the herd leader, the longest serving member of the HYH herd and a very good teacher. He works in our hippotherapy services and in mental health.  Many consider him to be a wise and spiritual guide. His favorite treat is a peppermint. Experience has shown that if you come on property with one in your pocket, he will find you.

Dancer

Dancer

Dancer is a 15 hand Missouri Fox Trotter Gelding. He is the most senior member of our herd and came to us after years of serving in the mounted Sheriff’s patrol. Dancer is one of our “go to” horses for hippotherapy and enjoys time in our group work as well. He is very good at letting you know where is itchy spots are and he loves apples and carrots.

Bentley

Bentley

Bentley is a 14 hand grade horse. That means we have no idea what breed he is. He works primarily in our mental health programming and is a sensitive and insightful professional.  Bentley is very social with all visitors to the barn and loves apples, carrots, watermelon rinds and peppermints.

Whisper

Whisper

Whisper is a 14.3 hand Morgan gelding. He came to HYH with his owner, psychologist Molly DePrekel and happily participates in all of our programs and services. Whisper works in our hippotherapy and mental health services.  He enjoys time in the milieu (i.e. hanging out) and loves to have his mane brushed.  Favorite treats:  apples, peppermints and carrots.

Levi

Levi

Levi a 15.3 hand buckskin quarter horse donated by the Rhinehart family. Levi passed his trial period with flying colors and is enjoying meeting new friends.  Thank you Rhinehart family and welcome Levi!

Yoder

Yoder

Yoder is a 10 year old gelding. Our best guess is that he is a Percheron Fjord cross but we will entertain other ideas. Trained as part of a driving team he sadly lost his partner and needed a new job, and some new friends. He was purchased from Windy Hill Farm in Millersburg, Ohio thanks to financial support from Mary and Armand Brachman. He loves working in our therapy services and will soon be seen in full harness helping to drag the arenas at the farm and perhaps pulling a cart sometime soon!

Bingo

Bingo

Meet Bingo. He is a 20 year old pony who spent most of his life with the McCann family competing in games, 4H and family fun. At just 12 hands tall he still packs a big personality. He manages to boss around bigger horses in the herd and takes his job here very seriously. He calmly carries our smallest clients through their hippotherapy sessions and is happy walk alongside older clients getting some exercise. We don’t know what mix of breeding he is but we think he is awesome!

Yosi

Yosi

Yosi was a 13 hand POA (Pony of the Americas) gelding. He was loving, kind and gentle and was one of the most dependable members of our herd.  After decades of love and devotion to clients, Yosi crossed over to greener pastures in May 2018.  He will forever be remembered and loved by our team and all of the people who’s lives were changed for the better.
